|
An early equal
mixture of Turkish flake, Perique, Red Virginia and bright Virginia
ribbon.
|
#067 Bayou Morning
|
A strictly VA/Perique
blend with stoved red Virginia. One of our most popular bulk Virginia

|
| #410 New Market |
A mixture of lemon Virginia ribbon and black Cavendish
with a dash
of deer tongue for spice.
"On May 15, 1864, Gen. Franz Sigel's Union army engaged Gen. John
Breckinridge's
Confederate forces near this quiet little Shenandoah Valley town.
In a raging thunderstorm, the Confederates emerged triumphant, thanks
in
no small part to a charge by a battalion of cadets from the Virginia
Military
Institute. In later years the alumni would gather in Lexington's
taverns and enjoy this blend as they recalled one of the most glorious
days in the proud tradition of VMI, alternating puffs on their pipes
with
shouting the famed cry of the cadets at the battle of New Market, 'The
Institute will be heard from today!'" |
#414 Oriental Silk
|
Perique, bright flake,
Turkish flake and bright Virginia ribbon combine to make a memorable
smoke.
|
#417P Night Train
|
Bright Va ribbon, bright
Va flake, Cavendish Cut brown Va Burley and Perique combine to form a
smoke as smooth as a train gliding effortlessly through the late night
hours. (PRESSED ONLY)
|
| #450 Ridin' the Raid |
Stoved red and lemon Virginia mixed skillfully with
straight red and
lemon Virginia. A full, round smoke.
"As you lose yourself in this flavorful smoke you can almost feel the
creak of the saddle and hear the quiet jangle of equipment in the
hushed
night as you join Jeb Stuart's famed 'Black Horse' cavalry in another
ride
behind the Yankee lines." |
| #451 Gray Ghost |
Stoved and plain red Virginia are mixed with fine
Pennsylvania maduro
cigar leaf to form a full-flavored smoke.
"Col. John S. Mosby, the 'Gray Ghost of the Confederacy,' and
his band of partisan rangers ruled supreme over the Northern Virginia
area,
a reign so complete the region came to be known far and wide as
'Mosby's
Confederacy." Many an evening was spent by members of Mosby's
Rangers
sitting by the fireside, relaxing with a bowl of this favorite blend as
they regaled family and friends with tales of their latest raid." |
| #453 Woodstock Races |
A combination of red and lemon Virginia and Turkish
makes this an exceptionally
smooth blend.
"When Gen. Tom Rosser's Rebel cavalry met Gen. George Custer's Yankee
cavalry near Tom's Brook on October 9, 1864, the two old friends and
former
West Point classmates spied each other from opposite hills. They
then doffed their hats and saluted each other in the cavalier manner of
the times. By day's end, Rosser's men had been driven
helter-skelter
26 miles south beyond Woodstock in the battle which came to be know as
'The Woodstock Races'." |
| #456 Winchester |
Red Virginia and unsweetened black Cavendish (Kentucky
Green River
Burley) are mixed in a blend that is reminiscent of the old Rattray's
'Dark
Fragrant.'
"Winchester - the city, not the rifle - is strategically located at
the mouth of the beautiful Shenandoah Valley. Winchester was the
most fought over town of the Civil War. It changed hands 72 times
and was the site of three major battles. When Gen. Stonewall Jackson
left
his winter headquarters there to begin his famed Valley Campaign in
1862,
he remarked to an aide, 'Winchester is a very nice place to be,
sir.'
We agree, and so honor the historic and pictuesque city with this
excellent
blend." |
| #457 Yorktown |
Stoved red Virginia is combined with lemon Virginia and
restoved. Straight
red Virginia is added for sweetness.
"On October 19, 1781, when George Washington's Continental Army
defeated
Gen. Lord Cornwallis's British Army in the final battle of the
Revolutionary
War, the British were so shocked and embarrassed their band played 'The
World Turned Upside Down' as the army marched off in defeat.
Cornwallis
was worried about his reputation; his troops' biggest concern was that
they might no longer be able to get this marvelous blend of Virginia
tobaccos." |
| #458 Poplar Camp |
Stoved red Virginia is combined with bright Virginia
ribbon and restoved.
The red Virginia, Perique and unsweetened black Cavendish are added."
During
the Civil War two of the most precious commodities for the young
Confederacy
were salt and lead. This made Wythe County in southwestern
Virginia
a precious resource, being rich in both minerals. As a result, the area
was coveted by the Federals and jealously guarded by the
Confederates.
Through the four years of war many skirmishes for control of Wythe
County
took place. One of the largest occurred in 1864 when Confederates
stationed at nearby Poplar Camp were able to turn back a determined
Union
offensive.
"Today visitors to the area can view a monument to the
rich history
of lead mining in Wythe County. A 75-ft. stone tower, built by
Thomas
Jackson in 1802 for pouring lead shot still stands and is open to
visitors.
Cornell & Diehl is pleased to honor the proud heritage of Wythe
County with “Poplar Camp.” A smooth, rich blend of Virginias,
Perique
and unsweetened black cavendish is perfectly balanced to deliver an
unforgettable
smoke that will put lead in your-um, pipe.
"Legend also has it that the Shot Tower is haunted,
frequented by the
spirits of soldiers who defended it and the ghost of a young man
frightened
into leaping to his death from the tower’s summit by the sudden
appearance
of the ghostly soldiers. So if you’re visiting the Tower after
dark,
be sure to have your pipe filled with Poplar Camp. We’re told it
either repels or draws the spirits, we can’t remember which. But
we’re sure your experience will be made all the more pleasurable by
this
masterful blend either way."

#927 Guilford Courthouse
|
C&D pays tribute
to our heritage with Guilford Courthouse, a new Virginias blend named
for the closing battle of the Southern Campaign during the American
Revolution. Fought in our home state of North Carolina, we find it
fitting to honor this battle that took place in part of what would
become known as the tobacco "Old Belt" with a blend of the finest Red
and Bright Virginias grown in the Old Belt region. And, just like the
Revolutionary War soldiers adding a pinch of salt to their stew, we've
added a pinch of
extraordinary Izmir Oriental leaf for spice and to enhance the
sweetness of the Virginias. We trust you'll enjoy this new blend from
C&D.

#837
Or Olam:(Light of the
Universe)
|
A classic Virginia and Perique blend with an unusual added note
of exotic orientals. Red and golden Virginia are married to Perique and
just a note of red Virginia cavendish is added for a smooth, sweet
finish.
|
#838 Halav U’Dvash
(Milk and Honey)
|
A true blend of both black and red VA cavendish as a base, given
strength and presence with rough cut and dark fired Kentucky leaf,
combined with exotic Middle Eastern orientals and specially processed
with a traditional aromatic agent. The blend comes into being with a
final hand-blended note of Perique. An aromatic for those who think
they don’t like aromatics.
|
#839 Boker Or (Morning
Light, a response to Boker Tov, or Good Morning)
|
An unusual base of light yet rich orientals serves as a backdrop to a
real Perique presence, enveloping stoved red Virginias sweetened with a
bit of black cavendish. Perfect with a cup of strong coffee or on a
morning stroll.
|
#840 Or L’yom (Daylight)
|
Lighter in the contribution of orientals and Perique, this blend gets
it character from the elegant red Virginias and smooth, round burley
that are melded with toasted cavendish. A bowl starting the day sets a
fine course for what follows.
|
#841 Sha’are Orah (Gates
of Light)
|
Named for a book of Jewish mysticism, this is a substantial blend with
a special cubed burley base. It derives its subtle essence from the
delicate interplay of Turkish leaf and Perique, further mellowed by
stoved red Virginias. We are admonished to act with great care in this
world, as we are not the final arbiters of actions we judge
insignificant. Similarly, a microcosm of leaf adroitly balanced results
in intricate and surprising flavors.
